Don’t think for a second that I haven’t gone through a tone of DIY efforts and more than a few trials and errors myself back in 2013 when I first started my content creation journey. It took me almost 2 years to finally decide to dive deep and actually study to become a SEO specialist and conquer the art of writing for SEO.
Now I want to help you improve your search engine optimization writing by implementing keyword research into your weekly do-to list.
So you’ve just created your website and excitingly added all your top-notch products for people to admire. Time to focus on yet another key element. SEO keywords research. So, let’s dig into a surprisingly simple way to identify all the relevant keywords for your business page.
STEP ONE: take notes of all the relevant words and phrases that come to your mind
Since search engine results are based on what people are currently looking for online, it only makes sense to put yourself in their position and brainstorm about the specific words you would have used if you were them.
Let’s say that you are a small handmade candle business that sells heavenly-scented candles out of beeswax. She has spent a lot of time and energy hand-pouring and testing the ingredients, so now all she needs is to improve her website’s SEO. We will call her Lisa.
So, Lisa has to figure out what her fellow beeswax candle lovers are currently searching for.
The first thing that she needs to do is identify the persona of her ideal clients. Lisa decided that she wants to cater to candle-lovers that are interested in aromatherapy—since her candles are infused with essential oils. Even better, she is looking for clients who prefer calming, alluring scents. Now she has everything she needs to start her SEO keywords research for beginners.
Time to start brainstorming in order to create a list of all the potential key phrases that pop up in her mind. The first thing is obviously “Natural beeswax candles”, so Lisa needs to figure out the rest of them.
After a few minutes she will probably come up with a list that looks a lot like this:

Seems like people who are looking for aromatherapy candles are also interested in anxiety and stress-relief options. Oh look, they also looking for Australian businesses as well.
Lista isn’t too keen on giving away her secrets just yet, so she won’t be using the “DIY” reach result. She wouldn’t want to attract the wrong website visitors.

STEP 3: Step up your SEO-optimized keyword game
Let’s go back to Lisa’s original list. Yes, it looks a bit generic, but her business is nothing less than unique. Time to make sure that her potential clients will recognize that as well.
Remember how Lisa is head over heels obsessed with essential oils? She goes in and types “beeswax essential oil candles” but one of the top Google searches indicates that “Organic beeswax essential oil candles” and “essential oil scented beeswax candles” are also great keyword options for her SEO optimized writing.
Even though many different options might have the same word combination, the word order is always extremely important! After all, it shows exactly what Lisa’s fellow candle-lovers need.
Now it’s the time to start filling in your own SEO-optimized keywords list. You can start looking for phrases that best describe your business. If you are a slow fashion brand, for example, you can implement many different phrases like a description of your aesthetic (preppy, Y2K, boho), or specific materials (cotton, satin).

Yes, it’s not easy to look at the best SEO keywords results, luckily you can learn the basics from the list below.
Volume: This section indicates how many users are searching for this specific keyword on a monthly basis. The most general phrases often get high volume results. However, higher volume means more competition.
Difficulty: The difficulty score of each keyword ranks from 0 to 100. High scores mean higher competition. Unfortunately, there are already thousands of websites that are using the same keywords and have already ranked higher than most. Moz suggests new websites to pick keywords with a 20-30 difficulty score and move on to more competitive keywords as they grow.
